Boxes

The Boxes section allows you to manage the physical storage of your comic collection.

Each box is created once as metadata and can then be assigned to any number of comics, allowing SCADA to keep track of exactly where every comic is stored.

By combining digital cataloging with physical storage management, SCADA helps you organize even large collections efficiently.

Creating a Box

When creating a new box, you can define:

  • Name
  • Type
  • Capacity
  • Notes (optional)

Once saved, the box becomes available when editing comics in your Collection.

Name

The Name uniquely identifies the box.

Examples:

  • Box 01
  • Box 02
  • Amazing Spider-Man
  • Marvel Bronze Age
  • Williams Verlag

Choose a naming convention that matches the way you physically organize your collection.

Type

The Type describes the physical style of the storage box.

Examples include:

  • Short Box
  • Long Box
  • Drawer Box

The box type is primarily intended to improve organization and readability.

Capacity

Specify the maximum number of comics the box can hold.

Examples:

  • Short Box — 80 comics
  • Long Box — 150 comics

SCADA uses this value to calculate the current occupancy of each box.

Notes

The Notes field can be used to store additional information, such as:

  • Storage location
  • Shelf number
  • Contents
  • Special remarks

This field is optional.

Assigning Boxes

Once a box has been created, it can be assigned to comics within your Collection.

This allows SCADA to keep track of:

  • Which box contains a specific comic
  • How many comics are currently stored in the box
  • How much free space remains

Boxes effectively provide a digital inventory of your physical storage system.

Dashboard Integration

Box information is also displayed on the Dashboard.

At a glance, you can see:

  • Total number of boxes
  • Overall storage capacity
  • Used capacity
  • Available free space

This makes it easy to determine whether additional storage space will soon be needed.

Why Use Boxes?

Managing boxes centrally provides several advantages:

  • Organized physical storage
  • Quickly locate individual comics
  • Monitor box occupancy
  • Track remaining storage capacity
  • Consistent management of your entire collection

For larger collections, this can save a significant amount of time when locating or reorganizing comics.

Best Practice

Organize your boxes in SCADA the same way they are arranged on your shelves.

A simple sequential naming system—such as Box 01, Box 02, Box 03, and so on—makes locating individual comics much faster.

Some collectors also prefer descriptive names such as Spider-Man, Marvel Bronze Age, or Independent Comics, depending on how their collection is organized.

Summary

The Boxes feature bridges the gap between your digital collection and its physical storage. By tracking box assignments and available capacity, SCADA always knows where your comics are stored and how efficiently your storage space is being used.
