Characters

The Characters section manages every comic character in your collection.

Each character is created only once and can then be assigned to any number of comics.

This keeps character names consistent throughout your database while eliminating duplicate entries.

Creating a Character

When creating a new character, you can store the following information:

  • Name
  • Real Name
  • Notes (optional)

Once created, the character becomes available for selection when editing comics.

Name

The Name is the character’s commonly recognized name.

Examples:

  • Spider-Man
  • Venom
  • Doctor Octopus
  • Green Goblin
  • Daredevil

This is the name displayed throughout SCADA.

Real Name

Optionally, you can store the character’s civilian identity.

Examples:

CharacterReal Name
Spider-ManPeter Parker
VenomEddie Brock
Doctor OctopusDr. Otto Octavius
Green GoblinNorman Osborn
DaredevilMatthew Michael „Matt“ Murdock

This information is intended for documentation purposes and makes it easier to distinguish characters with similar identities.

Notes

Use the Notes field to store additional information about the character.

Examples include:

  • First appearance
  • Alternate identities
  • Special notes
  • Personal comments

This field is optional.

Assigning Characters to Comics

When editing a comic, you can assign as many characters as needed.

This allows every important character appearing in an issue to be documented.

For example, one comic might include:

  • Spider-Man
  • Green Goblin
  • Gwen Stacy
  • Mary Jane Watson

Another issue from the same series may contain a completely different cast of characters.

Why Use Character Metadata?

Managing characters centrally provides several advantages:

  • Consistent naming
  • No duplicate entries
  • Quick selection while editing comics
  • Powerful search and filtering
  • Consistent metadata throughout your archive

For larger collections featuring recurring characters, this can save a significant amount of time during data entry.

Best Practice

Whenever possible, use the character’s official name as the primary character name.

Alternative identities, aliases, or civilian names should be stored in the Real Name field. This keeps your metadata clean and ensures consistent search results.

Summary

The Characters section provides a centralized way to manage every comic character in your collection. By creating each character only once, SCADA keeps your metadata consistent while making it easier to search, filter, and organize comics based on the characters they feature.
